LC Volleyball Team Take Two on Sophomore Day
October 28, 2013
On Saturday, the Lincoln College Volleyball team celebrated “Sophomore Day” by winning two matches at home. The triangular event featured Lincoln against two opponents they had lost to earlier in the season. This time, however, the Lady Lynx got revenge by sweeping both matches in three sets. LC first defeated Kaskaskia College 25-22, 28-26, 25-21 then took down Sauk Valley CC 27-25, 26-24, 25-20. Lincoln improved their record to 16-17 on the season.
Morgan Lesher 26 kills, 8 points
Latasha Fizer 17 kills, 3 blocks
Jenna Harcharick 11 kills, 7 blocks
Taylor Hewitt 26 digs, 8 points
Jordan Michaels 34 set assists, 9 points
Jessa Coker 35 set assists, 11 points
Alyssa Morales 4 digs, 7 points
Destiny Adkins 8 kills, 9 points
Sierra Wilson 8 kills, 3 blocks
Kristin Davis 8 kills, 5 blocks
Mariana Rogers 5 digs, 3 points
Alli Haffner 7 points
LC Coach Mark Tippett: Our team played some excellent volleyball today. We cut down on our number of unforced errors and played aggressively all day long. I was especially impressed by how we kept a positive attitude when things were not going out way. In nearly every set we had to erase deficits and some of them came after our opponents had 20 or more points. We had two big comebacks against Sauk Valley during which we made fantastic plays to come through in high pressure situations. The wins today were extra satisfying because they came against teams we had lost to the first time we played them. We dropped a heartbreaking five set match to KCC about a month ago in which we let a late lead slip away from us and we had not seen Sauk Valley since August. The improvement shown by our players since then has been significant.
Prior to the second match of the event, Lincoln took time to recognize the sophomore members of their team. These players include Latasha Fizer, Alli Haffner, Alyssa Morales, Jordan Michaels, Morgan Lesher, Kristin Davis, and Taylor Hewitt. During the ceremony, Coach Tippett announced that All-Conference honors had been awarded to Fizer (2nd Team), Lesher (1st Team) and Hewitt (Hon. Mention).
Coach Tippett: I am very proud to have coached the sophomore class. They have done an outstanding job on the court and in the classroom. In addition, they have gotten along with each other as well as any group of players I have coached, which has made working with them a lot of fun.
Lincoln plays their final home match of the regular season on Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm versus Illinois Valley CC.
