LC Coach Mark Tippett:  I was quite pleased with our team’s performance this weekend.  We played very competitively against Lincoln Land and Parkland which are among the strongest teams in the NJCAA this year.  We showed a huge amount of improvement over the first time we played Parkland in early September.  We were able to win a set from them this time which is something very few teams have been able to do this year.  On Saturday we took care of business against two opponents we had beaten before, and I was happy with the energy we brought to the court as well as the overall quality of our play.  Each member of our team contributed to our success this weekend, and I saw some great teamwork on our side of the net.  I am confident we will continue to improve our level of play as we get closer to the postseason.

Lincoln is off until Thursday evening when they will host the Millikin University JV team for a 6:00 pm match.  The match will be the team’s annual Volley for the Cure night in order to raise funds for research in the fight against breast cancer.

LC Volleyball Win 5-Set Thriller at SWIC

Belleville, IL – On Thursday, the Lincoln College Volleyball Team traveled to Belleville to take on Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) in their final Region match of the year.  The Lady Lynx started out hot, winning the first set 25-17, and took an early 7-2 advantage in set two, but SWIC battled back and wound up winning the set 19-25.  Set three was evenly played throughout and both teams had multiple set point opportunities, but it was SWIC that came out on top winning it 25-27.  LC regrouped and came out fighting in set four to build an 8-0 lead.  They eventually took the set 25-16.  In the deciding set to 15 Lincoln picked right up where they left off and jumped out to a 4-0 advantage behind the serve of sophomore Alyssa Morales.  Lincoln maintained that four point lead the rest of the way to win the set 15-11.  The victory moves LC to 12-14 overall and 4-3 in the Region.

Morgan Lesher 23 kills, 8 digs, 6 points
Destiny Adkins  8 kills, 4 points, 1 block
Jordan Michaels  24 set assists, 3 points
Jessa Coker  25 points, 17 set assists

Latasha Fizer  4 kills, 3 digs
Sierra Wilson  5 kills, 1 block
Kristin Davis  5 kills, 1 block
Jenna Harcharick  2 kills, 5 blocks
Mariana Rogers  5 digs, 3 points

LC Coach Mark Tippett:  SWIC really made us earn it tonight, but even when we were down two sets to one, our players never gave up and continued to work together.  Set three was a real battle and to lose it after having two set point opportunities was quite disappointing.  I believe a lot of teams would have let a loss like that sink their confidence, but I was impressed by the way we handled it.  The team stayed focused and came out in set four playing like Lynx.

LC Volleyball Battle Carl Sandburg to Four Sets

Lincoln, IL – On Tuesday, the Lincoln College Volleyball Team lost a home match to Carl Sandburg College in four sets.  Each set saw several long rallies and changes of momentum.  Lincoln dropped the first set 21-25 then nearly evened the match in the next set, but eventually fell 24-26.  In set three the Lady Lynx found their rhythm and never trailed on their way to a 25-16 win.  The fourth set saw Lincoln jump out to an early lead, but they were unable to sustain the momentum and lost the set 20-25.  Lincoln is now 11-14 on the season.

Stat Totals:

Morgan Lesher 13 kills, 4 points
Jenna Harcharick 5 kills
Latasha Fizer 10 kills
Destiny Adkins 7 kills, 3 blocks
Sierra Wilson 4 kills, 3 blocks
Jessa Coker 17 set assists, 5 points
Jordan Michaels 19 set assists, 5 points
Taylor Hewitt 22 digs, 5 points
Kristin Davis 5 kills, 2 blocks
Mariana Rogers 8 digs
Alyssa Morales 2 digs
Alli Haffner 3 points

Coach Mark Tippett: I was proud of the effort we brought to the match tonight.  We played very hard on defense and our offense continued to improve.  We lost to Sandburg in three sets the first week of the season and the scores were not close.  Tonight was a much different story as we were able to compete with them in each set and had our chances to win the match.  Serving errors cost us set two, which is frustrating, but the good news is that our team has improved our overall play to the point that we could be competitive against an opponent that just a month ago we lost to in straight sets.
